Blue Moon Soaps and Pottery
How to Find Blue Moon Soaps and Pottery
Around the corner of Main Street and down a short flight of steps is the Blue Moon Soaps and Pottery entrance. The flag and display window of beautifully finished pieces are the first to welcome you. Linda is always nearby, helping others with their painting, cleaning up, arranging pieces, providing tips and discussing techniques. The front counter also displays handmade soaps in a variety of scents. You may even get to meet a dog from the Wynn Dog Rescue, through whom Linda fosters dogs until a good home is found.
Family Friendly Artistic Fun
Though the store is filled with pottery, both finished and ready to paint, children are always welcome. It can be nerve wracking watching kids, especially your own, wander around and pick up pieces, but Linda is very relaxed about it. She is ready to help kids with paint color choices, smocks, placing hand prints on plates, and even a selection of books and crayons for when children finish before their parents. Once you choose your piece you are ready to go. Kids love washing down the piece with a water soaked sponge, then choosing among the many colors of paint while the pottery dries. Linda explains how to paint and will give pointers and tips depending on your questions and experience. Hair dryers are even available to speed up the drying time between layers. The cozy, family atmosphere also encourages conversations between visitors as you enjoy your time painting. Want to make a memorable plate or mug for your trip? That is easy, too, with acrylic paints which allow you to take the piece home that day and not have to wait for it to be baked in the kiln. Linda is also an expert at positioning child hands in the paint for unforgettable handprint designs. If you do not have time to paint, the front room displays many pre-painted pieces ready to purchase and there are also Linda's handmade soaps at the counter.
Special Events at the Store
Blue Moon Soaps and Pottery is not just about painting ceramics. It is also the host of educationally based events and fun evenings out. Ladies night out is Thursday evenings, and the first Friday evening of each month is dedicated to children. Birthday parties, company meetings and special events can be arranged. There are even special classes offered by local craftspeople to learn how to use a pottery wheel, work with specialty glazes, and make center pieces. Whether you are only driving through or staying for a time there is something to do at the Blue Moon Soaps and Pottery. Stop by and browse, stay and paint, and enjoy a friendly family-oriented atmosphere.
